"Endowing Our Future" Campaign
Providing Enhancement to Education, Facilities, and Instructional Materials for the Next Generation
Since it was founded in 1990, the Kewanee Schools Foundation has been enhancing education in the Kewanee Community Schools. Working with alumni and friends, the Foundation has raised funds to support the construction and renovation of school facilities, provided scholarships, purchased instructional equipment, conducted special cultural events and fund-raisers, facilitated communication with alumni through a quarterly newsletter and website, sponsored special alumni events, and printed two alumni directories.
In order to continue this service to our students, community, and alumni, the Foundation is turning to those we serve and asking for your assistance in providing funds to "Endow Our Future".
Creation of a Learning Resources Center
The library at Kewanee High School was a state of the art facility when the building was constructed in 1957. Almost fifty years later, many of the same pieces of furniture, flooring, and equipment were still in use. Times have changed during the past half-century. Schools across the country now have Learning Resources Centers which feature computer access to data available at various national sources and are connected to university and industrial databases, as well as having instructors teach the skills for educational research similar to those taught by their university counterparts. Reference materials and books require replacement and expansion, learning resources materials need to be improved and much of the audio/visual equipment was outdated.
Modern Learning Resource Centers are facilities for community learning and are often a location where citizens from the community can benefit from the resources and equipment available. The Foundation Board worked closely with the Board of Education to create a modern Learning Resources Center at Kewanee High School that will benefit our students and citizens for years to come.
The first Phase of this project was recently completed. Phase 1 included a complete renovation of the existing facility by replacing carpet, ceiling, lights, furniture, and shelving.
Because of the assistance of alumni, friends, and a considerable donation from the Good Family, we were able to take this facility into Phase 2. The second phase is a 2,500 square foot addition to the existing facility.
Phase II Groundbreaking News Release
Dedication of Phase II - The second phase of the renovation of the Good's Learning Resources Center and the Pines/Great Dane Computer will occur in Fall, 2006. Watch for announcements on our website and local media.
